Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM IF Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras Review

I studied up pretty extensively on the super zoom lenses available. I was torn between the Tamron, Canon and Sigma. I tested the Canon and the USM motor was great but the lens was quite a bit more than the Tamron and Sigma. The Tamron had a bit more range but the focus speed seemed a bit slow and had a hard time locking on. I decided to go with the Sigma because the quality seemed a little better than the Tamron and it just seemed like a more durable lens.

I am by no means a professional but I do enjoy taking great photos. I also enjoy not worrying about changing lenses all the time. The Sigma 18-250 gives me the ability to shoot wide or zoomed in within seconds. I have had it for about six months and have enjoyed it thoroughly.

I would highly recommend this lens to anyone that is looking for a super zoom lens.

All-in-one lens is all you'll ever need - Mcdonald Mirabile - Arlington, VA
I agree with the general sentiment out there about this lens: solid construction quality, as lightweight as you could expect, and very easy to use. I find that it's not the sharpest as 250mm (even with VR on when applicable), but you always need to compromise with such super-zooms. I took this lens with me on a 2-week trip to Italy where it experienced a wide range of temperatures (20-80 degrees) and conditions. It performed admirably on my Nikon D90, taking about 400 pictures a day. At one point I had some problems with it maintaining a good solid eletrical connect with the body of the camera, but that problem eventually disappeared. This is my favorite out and about lens and I highly recommend it. Also good to know: This lens AND autofocus will work with Nikon's D3000 body, though the camera is dwarfed by the lens.

I've only used the lens a few times since I recently purchased it, but so far am very pleased with the performance. It gives a lot of flexibility instead of switching lenses and it focuses quickly.
